Typical reasons for costs without sales and how to check. This guide sets out practical checks, examples and the limits of the recommendations.
What does wasted budget actually mean?
Ads can waste money without sales for various reasons: there is no relevant traffic, the page is not convincing, the enquiry does not reach, or the manager does not close the deal. These are different problems. Before changing audiences, determine at what stage the result disappears. Collect spend, conversions, enquiries, qualified leads and sales for the same period.
No sales today does not automatically mean ads are ineffective: expensive products may have longer sales cycles. However, broken forms or ads shown in the wrong country need immediate checks.
Check 1: technical issues and lead delivery
Open the ad and follow the journey as a phone buyer. Check that the right page opens, the button is visible, the form works and the error message is displayed. Send an approved test request and make sure that the contact is actually received. Don't just use the "Thank you" message as proof of delivery.
- The form is accessible without being covered by a mobile menu or a sticky button.
- The contact enters the accounting system with the source.
- A repeat visit to thank-you does not create another request.
- Delivery error does not show false success.
Check #2: offer and page relevance
The ad and the page must meet the same need. If an ad promises a specific product, don't take the person to a generic page without that product. Show the conditions that affect the decision: price or calculation principle, geography, delivery, restrictions and next step.
Conventional example: an ad for emergency repairs gets a lot of clicks, but the page has no service area and no quick contact method. Testing these two barriers is more useful than testing the tenth audience at once. This is a diagnostic example, not a client case description.
Check 3: audiences, creative and campaign goals
Don't just measure CTR. A high click-through rate may mean an interesting picture, not an intent to buy. See which post has led to relevant enquiries and which has led to random contacts. Refine the segments, geography and optimization target. Do not combine purchases, messages and profile visits in one report.
In the Pishmaniye case study , tasting videos first explained the unfamiliar product, then purchase events were assessed. Different campaigns produced different results. This supports testing hypotheses, not a universal claim that video always works better.
Check #4: Sales after contact
Record response time, number of connection attempts and reasons for failures. When the enquiries are of good quality, but the product is not available or the contact is processed after several days, advertising settings will not solve the problem. At the same time, the sales department should give specific feedback, not just "bad leads".
Compare the price of a qualified lead and a customer. Formulas and an example are in articles on CPL and CAC. If you change the qualification rules, indicate this in the report: otherwise the periods will not be comparable.
When to stop and when to continue
Stop a broken journey, clearly irrelevant targeting or a test exceeding its agreed limit immediately. If delivery works, define one change and gather enough data to assess it. There is no universal number of days or enquiries: the decision depends on risk, demand and the sales cycle.
For targeted advertising the test plan should include the task, the risk, the outcome criterion, and the next action. Increasing the budget without such logic only makes the problem more expensive.
Before the next step
Record your starting data and decision criteria. Calculation examples are illustrative unless explicitly linked to a case study. Results from one project do not guarantee results for another business.
