Make ad creative stand out and communicate clearly. This guide sets out practical checks, examples and the limits of the recommendations.
One composition — one main idea
The advertising visual should help to recognize the product and understand the offer, rather than showing all the benefits at once. Choose what a person should notice first: the product itself, the result of use or a specific argument. If the logo, headline, price, and five marks are all equally large on the layout, they are competing for attention.
Before designing, formulate a brief message in words. If it is not clear without a picture, decorative elements will not solve the problem. Define the relationship with the advertising text: the visual shows, the text clarifies. Do not duplicate the entire description of the service in small print on the banner.
Show what the person buys
A real photo, scale and demonstration of use are often useful for the product. For a service, there is an understandable process or result that can be shown truthfully. An abstract image can attract attention but not explain the product. Check whether the image does not create an expectation of a configuration that is not included in the price.
Do not use other people's photos without the right to publish. If the image is illustrative, do not pass it off as an actual object or customer work. For cases, it is especially important to distinguish between thematic graphics and the actual screenshot of the results: they perform different functions and do not replace each other.
Check the contrast and reading on the phone
Review the design close to its actual display size, not only enlarged on a monitor. White text on bright yellow can be unreadable even when both are brand colours. Check contrast on each background, and do not convey an important difference through colour alone.
- Scale the layout down to phone size and read the main text.
- Remove details that are only visible when zoomed in.
- Check that the product does not blend into the background.
- Make sure that important information does not end up in a colorful part of the photo.
Adapt the composition, not just the file size
A square layout doesn't always work well after mechanically cropping to vertical. For each placement, check the visibility of the product, text, and call-to-action. The platform interface may overlap part of the image, so please view the actual preview before launching. Check the requirements for a specific format in the current interface of the advertising system.
Keep the source files with individual elements so that the adaptation does not require a complete redraw. In the vertical version, the order of the blocks can change, not only the scale. For videos, check that the main message is clear without sound if the person is watching that way.
Match the image to the landing page
After clicking, the user must recognize the same offer. If the ad shows a specific product or package, the page should help you find it without unnecessary steps. A different style is acceptable, but a different promise or hidden terms creates a misunderstanding. Funnel design is not just a beautiful banner.
Check that captions, prices, package details and photos agree between the ad and the page. Mobile visitors should quickly find what they need and take the next step. Evaluate creative together with its destination.
How to test a visual
Compare the meaningful options: the product in use, the demonstration of the part, the answer to the objection. Changing the color of a button is not always a new hypothesis. Write down exactly what is different and what kind of reaction you expect. Evaluate the quality of enquiries along with clicks, because an unusual image can attract irrelevant interest.
For a systematic approach, read our creative testing plan and text structure. When launching Instagram ads , include mobile adaptation in the preparation rather than leaving it as a final cosmetic change.
Before the next step
Record your starting data and decision criteria. Calculation examples are illustrative unless explicitly linked to a case study. Results from one project do not guarantee results for another business.
